Default Bryan Robson Was A King

Princes or Kings’. Those are the labels Norman Whiteside gives to high class players. For example he views George Best as a King and sees himself as a Prince in terms of footballing royalty.

The former Manchester United and Northern Ireland hero explains: “The likes of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton and I’d say Eric Cantona you could call them Kings.

“I was very much a Prince. I was just under that level. I’d have been like a Paddy Crerand. Paddy wasn’t the same as George. George was world class. Paddy was just under and I’d be in the Paddy Crerand class.”

Another regal performer in Whiteside’s eyes was his captain at United, Bryan Robson.

“Robbo was the best I played with,” says the youngest player to ever feature in the World Cup finals.

Gave us hope in the 80s when we otherwise had little to none.

Enjoy your bank holiday:

Even though that 80’s side didn’t always produce results consistently it was packed with players who were all competitors.

They could still kick the arse of the beta losers who infest our squad at the moment.

The ultimate competitor. When Robbo played there was always a chance. Loved him. Absolute legend.

Me too. I had his New Balance trainers.
I remember it doing me in when he'd made a(nother) comeback and dislocated his shoulder again.

He was all we had. Scousers were winning everything but they'd have killed for Robbo.

Aye, that team could beat anyone when they were committed. Just didn’t have the regular discipline and were the classic team in the manager’s image.

Still, generally entertaining, as was Ron himself but bringing Robbo with him was the best thing he ever did.

The belief he installed in the team is something money can't buy. Always forget how good a job he did at Boro. Three cup finals

Need to get my signed personal message from him framed.

If Fergie had taken over that group of players when Ron did they’d have won the league imo.

McGrath, Moran, Robson, Whiteside and Hughes deserved a title.

The player I grew up adoring, watched that documentary on Prime (I think) afew weeks before the end of the season which only made the turgid shit I watched even more painful. It was good though and he was magnificent
