Vertonghen mentioned in the rumour mill today. Wouldn't mind him but its Spurs so we'll pay well over the odds.

Anyone else starting to think we might have a fairly quiet January?

With the general form of the team and the fact that we've yet to really integrate our summer signings, could it be wise to leave the squad as it until the summer? Also strikes me that as much as I want better players brought in, our squad is far too bloated at the moment to accommodate any more players, and we still need to get rid of some players first. Everyone seems to agree we need a quality central defender, maybe 2, but we already have about 6 players that can play there, same in central Midfield. It's also the case that some of the players I would like to see leave fairly soon are getting a lot of playing time at the moment (young Valencia etc) and doing ok for now. Add to that we still have the likes of Nani/Hernandez/Zaha on the books.

Just seems to me like we could do with getting some of the new lads back second half of the season and then LVG should have a better idea of who he wants to keep and where he needs to strengthen in the summer.

Think we'll sign a defender but think it could be quiet other than that.

One centre back is all we should be aiming for in the January window.

And to get rid of Jones or Evans in summer.

At this moment in time young is one of the last players id get rid of.

He is playing exceptionally well and when we get shaw back young will be a very good back up for him.

With those two on the left. Valencia/Rafa on the right we look covered for wingbacks.

Touch one or two f the defenders/midfielders on and bring in one quality centre half now. One quality centre mid in the summer and we will be back challenging for titles imo..

Don't expect any signings. He'll probably allow the current centre halves time to earn their stay or prove they're not up to it.

Evans keeps proving he's a liability though.

Even when he seems to be doing alright for periods in a game, he'll suddenly pull a random back pass out of his arse that panics everyone or pass it straight to the opposition.

If everyone is fit, think he's the last centre back getting a game.
If we get another centre back in Jan, Evans has to be a goner in the summer.

Agree and worryingly for me I rate him ahead of Jones.

Jones just needs to play and avoid injury. Understandable that people are frustrated with him but he is still only 22, defenders usually peak later than other players, it is the one area where impulsiveness is punished the most.

Evans needs a move, one of the defenders from the other school who appears to have peaked early, the only addition to his game in his later years is an increasing nervousness that unsettles the defence. He should be the senior defender helping the younger ones on but lacks the authority in his game for the role.

Really dont think we should sign anyone unless its the players LVG really wants. Things are coming along nicely and I am very confident we will finish top 3/4. Cant see any players being available in January that would turn that top 3 finish into a first or second.

That being said if The Glazers sanction the signing of another couple of galacticos I wont complain.

Who is the answer defensively?
