Delighted for him.

Maybe Maicon can give him a few pointers.

Oh ffs. He obviously has ability but has been defending like a headless chicken for the last 6 months.

agree
maybe they have spotted he has great potential but has areas of his game he needs to work on. his positional sense being the main one.

the key areas of improvement needed for Rafael are composure and concentration

his positioning is excellent when the other two key areas are on blob - which they generally are

He's only just turned 20, yet football expert Sparky is slagging him off. £#%&!ing embarrassing.

What he's done since coming into the team as an 18 yr old, straight from brazil - is £#%&!ing exceptional IMO. His worst game in a red shirt came in a pre season game, big £#%&!ing deal.

Some of you mongs are unbelievable, you'd probably be hyping him up as the greatest rb in the world if he was on Chelsea's books.

It's took a while but at last you've posted something I completely agree with.

Throb is bang on too, nowt wrong with his positional sense it's more a case of his composure and concentration being patchy at times which is understandable. The defensive side of his game can go to shit when he's on one but he'll grow out of that.

Would be amazing if Fabio can have a bit od luck with injuries and prove that he's the better twin as we all thought initially, it's a long old season and having a proper understudy at left back will be invaluable.

FFS he is a brazilian full back, have you actually thought about what Brazilian full backs do? The great ones Roberto Carlos, Carlos Alberto, Nilton Santos, Cafu never did do much defending ever.
Brazilians like their full backs to attack rather than defend and we have seen from both of the brothers that they can do that with aplomb. I'd much rather watch them make the oddd defensive error but stream forward like they are playing in the 1970 world cup than play like Lee Dixon.

and neither do I think rafael is as bad defensively as people make out. In fact I think neville is nowadays more of a liability in defence than rafael. All you have to do is knock it 10 yards in front and out pace neville (which doesn't take much doing).

Rafael has handled the likes of robinho, ronaldinho etc pretty well when played against them
