Me mam died when I was quite young (17) and I know now that I didn't really grieve properly

All came out when I was in my thirties

Best dealt with as early as possible, don't put it off

Agree with most of that...just for the life of me can't fathom out why he made the programme..it's clearly not the publicity or a PR blag, maybe as he said it was therapeutic....but I still feel the grieving process should be kept within family and friends, not shared with the nation

I felt the same

Misses had it on so thought I'd give it a go....

Was blubbing within the first few minutes and it didn't get any easier

Rio seems such a genuine bloke, proper wore his heart on his sleeve and was very vulnerable through out.

To raise awareness and solidarity with other blokes out there who are doing the same....

It's a brilliant thing to do....he has the voice and the platform..

People grieve in different ways I guess?

Not sure I could have done it tbh, but at the same time if it helps him understand and deal with what's happened allowing him to help his kids then good on him.

I also think it will help a few people in similar situations who could feel alone and not knowing where to turn for help?

At the end (they are now on twitter)

If some dad someone thinks he's alone in all this he knows there's people out there that can help...

The thing with grief, as you stated above us it can take years to come out...

Maybe someone now will pick up the phone...

I know the word "brave" gets massively overused with stuff like this, but there was no actual need for Rio to do this programme.

He did, though, because he thinks it will help others in a similar situation.

That is commendable.

You've just £#%&!ing said it took you 15 years to start grieving ffs.

Also: the parallels between you and Lennon are starting to appear... interesting.

There is a part of me that says it's all 'look at me, I'm so distraught I have to make a TV prog about it' being the cynical c*** I am about such matters. Jo Cox's husband hasn't been out of the media since his tragedy, writing books and all sorts, smacks of personal projection and feeding a public mawkishness for other peoples grief that has become a cultural norm since the queen of hearts popped her clogs.

But the empathetic me says it maybe helps him to get through, keep on keeping on and perhaps gives it some meaning and if it helps folk in the same boat, all the better.

It helps when you have a lot of respect for the guy. If Norman Tebbit did a programme on how he dealt with his travails, people would be ripping him to bits and rightly so.
