how many free kicks has he let in this season alone....

its not only us that players take free kicks against.

he has let in about 4 or 5 this season which imo is too many.

Nobody would have saved that freekick.

I certainly remember the Leighton Baines one, which was not saveable by VDS, Schmeichel, Gordon Banks or anyone else you care to name.

The first Nakamura one was very good as well.

That makes three, can't recall any others.

Lets give this argument balance:

Tell me a free kick VDS has let in that he SHOULD have stopped?*

And im not saying you wont be able to come uo with one....

Default nobody could have saved that

except a player on the post.

which we should employ.

he opens up the whole goal for every freekick...

you never trust your wall that much if thats his "excuse"

it has failed him more than five times in two seasons

Ah but that only works if the opposition doesn't notice.

Otherwise there's no offside and they crowd the six-yard box, which won't do.

Vio, EVERY keeper positions himself just as VDS does. He's not doing anything revolutionary. You know what happens when you don't trust your wall? You get beat to the side you're supposed to be covering, i.e. Schemichel in Barcelona 99, which is a far easier shot for the shooter (no wall to go over after all).

Default I don't care if they

crowd the box. we had four defenders in tonight who can all head the ball.

if nothing else, vds should stand a bit nearer the middle of the goal.

He does seem to struggle to get airborne when it's necessary. Perhaps a set of casters and a small ramp.

You might as well saunter into a operating room and advise the surgeons.*

But leave the goalkeeping to goalkeepers.

*apologies if either of you are actually surgeons.

Default time to dust off that

sir jerry pun again.

vds clearly did something wrong. that kick was not unsaveable. I'd rather take my chances with the type of cross we cleared all day than with a direct free kick that was a carbon copy of the one nakamura scored at old trafford, thanks.

man on the £#%&!ing post!

He wouldn't have crossed. He still would have shot

No team, ever, would defend any free kick in shooting position with opposition players crowding the six yard box. You watch: sometimes teams do send a player back to the post, but when the opposition notices and floods the box, he comes trotting out again. It's suicide otherwise. Despite today and all the other free kick goals against, the majority still miss.

There was only ever one place that free-kick was going. I agree with Jem - given that it was a replica of the one at Old Trafford - I think VDS should have been a bit wiser to it and got nearer.

Default if that lanky @#%&!

can't get a ball hit in the corner from that distance, what is the point of being freakishly tall?
