Re: Ushering the ball out of play.
All of which raises a few more questions:
Do referees ever watch Match of the Day? If they do, why don't they know what the wall is doing the second they turn their backs? What's the point in measuring out the 10 yards if they are then going to proceed to ignore everything the players in the wall do subsequently? What would happen to the free kick taker if he point blank refused to take the kick until the wall was back the regulation distance? Did you all see the ref in the pre season game against the Mls marking out the distance with the can of foam that dissipates after a few minutes? Yes, it looks ridiculous, but is an incredibly simple solution to yet another example of players refusing to follow the rules. Doesn't it feel like all we talk about these days is cheating? Gervinho, Lampard, Torres... They're not even £#%&!ing good at it. Why do commentators have such a hard time admitting they made a bad call? There was nothing quite as sad this weekend as listening to David Pleat try to justify his claim that Lampard should have had a penalty when the slo-mo showed as clear as day that there was zero contact. Don't they realize that it will actually enhance their credibility rather than damage it to admit their initial mistake? |

Amazes me the amount of times he gets away with having his arms up, away from his body, blocking the ball. |

Upper arm indeed, still never handball though. I don't think the handball rule exists to punish entirely accidental contact like the above. imo. |
