We should have won it that year anyway, MJ.

Instead we choked - only honest word for it - against a (with all due respect) palpably inferior Leverkusen side; one of the very, *very* few times that has happened under SAF

And the following season, just for the happier record, we had lost 5 games by Xmas (or was it 6??)

True.
Well, we should have got to the Final at least
Beckham & Keane got injured in the QF didn't they??...can't remember if they made it for the first leg of the Semi.
Either way, we deserved to reach the Final in 2002 & 2003 in my opinion, but that's the way it crumbles....cookie wise.

yeah, funny that. selling a key player and replacing him with a has-been on a free.

sounds familiar.

in the 01/02 season we'd lost 6 games by christmas. and we didn't win the league, understandably. you can't get beat at home by Bolton, west ham, chelsea, liverpool and middlesbrough and expect to win the league. infact we finished 3rd didn't we.

in the 02/03 season we'd lost 5 games by boxing day. we went on to win the league thanks to the staggering form of paul scholes and van nistelrooy and didn't lose a single game after that.

We didn't lose after Christmas in the league back in 1998/99 either

Yes we were third in 2001/02 - it remains the *only* time that THEY have finished above us since the 1990/91 season

True, I always thought that nandrolone thing had a big hand in that. Imagine the outcry after winning the treble not too long before - the Sun would have had a 'Give your trophies back' campaign and the Prime Minister would have been asking questions about it.

But it's funny that Fergie now says he regrets it.

Might be wrong, but I don't tihnk anybody on Sky has once mentioned the John Terry story from the papers this morning. It might be a storm in a teacup but if it wasn't Mr Chelsea (or maybe Stevieeeeeeeeeeeeeee) they'd bring it up, no doubt.
