Tbf, that's why I said he was better than that. Aside from the results on the pitch, his influence changed the whole attitude of the club.

Imagine comparing a Ferrari and a hummer.

Now imagine having sold the Ferrari after a few years of excellent service with no problems, barring that few months you had to put it away.

Now the hummer you have now is good too, but you've had it for too long. On top of it being a petrol guzzler, insurance & other costs are too high. Also, as it's quite old, it's not performing as it used to be now compared to years ago.

If Rooney can get back to his best and lead us to glory he'll be popular again. It's that simple.

The pass on 32 minutes had shades of Cantona in his pomp

Thumbs down

Their names shouldn't be uttered in the same sentence.

cantona is cantona. the difference between them is vast - it's charisma, technique and impact...

eric loved the ball, rooney fights it...

eric saw the picture, rooney guesses what it is...

eric played in 2 major finals and won them both for united

rooney has played in 6 and has barely contributed, never mind won any of them for the team...

eric's goals in the biggest moments won leagues...

with rooney we have lost 2 titles at the end, with eric there is no question about it that we would have won them both

just look at how little impact rooney has had on the scoresheet in any of the 7 league title run-ins he's been part of. the only one he's made any notable impact on was 11/12 and we know how that one ended. not saying that's all his fault, but it kind of marks the difference between him and canotona imo - not that it really needs to be defined. it's a £#%&!ing chasm.

you could say with rooney he was the one that was key in us over taking liverpool with titles.

Rooney has won everything.

its not at all we are talking about the player thats scored the most goals for the club (by the end of the season) being universally disliked vs a player that did not even make the top 20 in goals scored and why he is loved more than any play to wear the shirt.

When you look at it like that its interesting to hear why people love eric so much and hate rooney who has been doing over a longer period of time and some could say has had a greater impact.

it's a red herring surely - and a giant one at that.

who was the better striker? rooney on 246 goals in 12 years? or RvN on 150 goals in 5 years?

who was the better player? cantona on 80 odd goals in 5 years? or RvN?

No it isn't, he's absolutely spot on.

Comparing Cantona to Rooney is like comparing a formula 1 driver to a white van man in that they both drive for a living.

This.

How Rooney is now is affecting how people assess his contribution. And it shouldn't.

But Cantona was better

Cantona £#%&!ed off just before his sparkle dwindled.

This happened to Rooney 4-5 years ago. Too many stinking performances since and he is unrecognisable from the player we bought. Not many attackers can play at the top level for as long as he has tho tbf to him.

Cantona seen his arse and £#%&!ed off when he got hate...

Rooney thrived on it, even the made up hate, played through it and continued to win things.

600 not out.

True, but he has often performed just as badly as many of these 'shit @#%&!s'. But that is going over old ground.
