Given that, I'm a bit surprised Ferguson didn't give him the vermin for number 600.

Thinking about it I'm pretty sure Scholesy scored against the vermin in his 600th.

Given that SAF can lapse into sentiment at times, this stat makes it all the more surprising GN didn't even make the bench.

Maybe Wednesday??

Abuse.

He's the best right-back we've ever had, no doubt. But he should have retired a year ago - the longer he plays on, the more he's tarnishing his legacy.

So in defending him, you have to slag someone else off?

You know what I mean!...I don't mean 'abuse' as such, but he gets a staggering amount of stick considering who he is & what he's done for United.
If we had a top drawer right back at the Club to replace him then I'm sure he would have called it quits, but even after all the injuries he's had he still get's a game from time to time because the likes of Rafael, Wes etc.. can't make the position their own.

Scholes on 649 as well, and Giggs with a ridiculous 845, will that ever be beaten? I remember the season he got the record off Charlton and towards the end of the year there were a lot of 5 mins sub appearances, some thought that he would retire, struggled to find his form. Next year he wins player of the year

The case of Giggs and Scholes would suggest that writing the obituary for any of that era is risky, but unlike those 2 and Beckham for that matter Neville does not have world class ability to fall back on when the legs go.

Thumbs up Re: Gary Neville

neville 599 and counting
scholes 649 and counting
giggs 845 and counting

that is something special in the modern game, something to be deeply proud of. all of those players are bone fide club legends, life and soul of the club. be a sad day when any one of them packs it in.

at least there are others following in those footsteps who could approach those numbers:

o'shea 365 and counting
rooney 286 and counting
fletcher 261 and counting
