if ireland qualify, i hope our group games are in alaska.

Ireland had their best chance in 2002.

With Keane, they'd have won. You (not you personally) were unlucky not to beat Spain and then would have played South Korea.

You'd have already faced Germany in the group stage and could have done them in the semis and Brazil were far from unbeatable.

Mexico hosted in 86, USA in 94. What's all that about? The good people of Middlesbrough have been waiting over 50 years now to see another world cup game. Bring it home FFS

If?

It’s going to be 48 teams. Will be harder not to qualify

It is very strange why FIFA seem reluctant to give it to us.

Probably to do with the fact they hate us.

Original proposals were for 3 more European sides. So probably still not lowered the bar enough for the Irelands, Scotland and Wales.

Sorry was a typo. 80 games but, like you say, a whole lot of shite to be expected.

60 of the tournament's matches will be held in the US, including everything from the quarterfinals onwards, while Mexico and Canada will host 10 games each.

That and maybe more importantly you have to apply to host it before FIFA can deny it to you which England hasn't done. So there's that...

Can't be long before someone smokes the idea of a joint Britain and Ireland bid. Especially post Brexit. Politically it's got legs. The campaign starts here!

Scotland and Ireland did a combined bid for the euros once didn't they?

Got nowhere.

Do they even have the stadia to host a world cup?

Ibrox, Celtic Park, Aviva Stadium...

Rest of the stadiums with sufficient capacity are gaelic football aren't they?

I think it could be more interesting
Three team groups. No dead rubber games and then straight to the knockouts. I'd just increase it to 64 and have a straight KO tournament tbf. Ditch the majority of world cup qualifiers along with it. Or perhaps incorporate it into this new league thing they are doing for friendlies.
