In my experience, in a variety of situations, it's been practically impossible to get the police and prosecution service to investigate blatant crimes (even with video evidence, text messages, etc). Just because someone's done something totally immoral and illegal, it doesn't mean they'll be prosecuted. And even if they are taken to court, a slippery defence lawyer might wave their magic wand and get the defendant off the hook (have seen that happen, first hand, as well).

So, if we can't trust the legal system to bring about criminal charges, should we just allow people who we strongly suspect* of committing criminal behaviour a free pass?

*according to our own, subjectively determined 'balance of probabilities'/'beyond reasonable doubt'

yes, but you were talking about it not being a problem to get a guilty verdict. it could be no charges or it could be no witness and inadmissible evidence. who knows to what her evil father will have made her agree?

Hang on a minute. Her evil father made her agree? So even if the guy is innocent he's guilty because, well just because.

If Greenwood is found guilty in a court of law I'd have no problem with throwing away the key. But if he isn't then the law says he's innocent until proven otherwise.
