Default John Barnes plays the race card.....Again

Unreal...

Never has anything to do with the fact he and Dalglish ran Celtic into the ground

Or that he was shit at Tranmere. McAteer was his assistant and he hasn't gotten a job since either.

You're a manager, you're shit - you don't get offered a job when there's someone deemed better than you. Simple.

Like Barnes.

Presumably they only hired him as manager so that they could sack him because he's black?

An utter turd, file under the same section as Ince.

"Waaah, they won't employ me cos I'm black!!"

No Paul, they won't employ you because you are:

A. Shit
B. A trouble making, unstable tosser
C. Shit

In no particular order

It is strange how there's been so many black players yet so few black managers.

Barnes is obviously using the issue to mask the fact that he can't get a job because he was a £#%&!ing awful manager but there is a problem somewhere.

Why aren't there a load of good black managers?

Perhaps black players want to go on to be white managers?

Seriously, has there ever been any discussions with black players about what they want to do after their playing days are over? How many want to go on into management?

He did a terrible job at Celtic but how many white managers have done terrible jobs yet keep getting appointed to jobs?

Northers is spot on. Football administration is not safe from the same institutional racism that exists in other spaces. Appointing a black man as your manager is a completely different thing to buying/playing black players.

Obviously John Barnes isn't the best person to say these things given his horrendous comments on the Evra and Anton Ferdinand cases but he is not wrong to say being a black man has held him back in management because that is undoubtedly true.

David Moyes happens to be white, he's openly black.

John Barnes isn't a great example. He's done a terrible job in club management so he's not going to be top of many lists for jobs unless he accepts he has to drop down the leagues and work his way up again. Abject failure at Tranmere means he really shouldn't be considered for a role higher than League Two imo.

Not sure it happens that much after terrible starts, tbf. English football looks very badly upon early failure, instead of recognising that a young manager can learn from mistakes. Tony Adams hasn't had another look-in since a couple of poor spells at the start of his career.

What's interesting is the level black managers go in at. Barnes at Celtic is a slight exception because that was about Dalglish, but generally while Sherwood, Southgate, Pearce, Shearer, Adams etc walk into top jobs, the likes of Ince and more recently Hasselbaink start off at Macclesfield and Burton Albion. English managers are awful, but that doesn't stop the white ones with status getting big jobs.

If Hasselbaink was white, with the career he's had across multiple countries, speaking various languages, does he start in League 2?
