Yep, should be weekly stories of chavs getting savaged by bears, wolves and wild boar...instead we get inner city house wives moaning about foxes raiding the bins.

Absolutely disgusting that you think some animals are better than others.

You're right actually - all animals are brilliant and equally deserving of life.

However, some animals are better mascots. A lion is probably the best non fiction animal IMHO.

The old kingdoms (it's 2016 fyi) loved lions.

Dutch/english/czechs. All pulling lions out their arses.

Why do they call it the king of the jungle anyway? They're nowhere near jungles.

So looks like England aren't the only nation to pillage Africa of their identity and fauna.

England - Three Lions
Cuba - Caribbean Lions
Bulgaria - The Lions
Luxembourg - The Lions
Singapore - Lions

Iraq - Lions of Mesopotamia
Afghanistan - Lions of Khorasan
Cameroon - Indomitable Lions
Morocco - Lions of the Atlas
Senegal - Lions of Teranga

Starting to think Lion is a bit overused to be honest, there are numerous creatures that are seriously under represented when it comes to National Team Nicknames.

Tigers for instance, which could annihilate a Lion any day of the week, have never appeared at a World Cup (India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Bangladesh)

Same goes for Sharks (Cape Verde), Wolves (Mongolia, Uzbekistan), Crocodiles (Lesotho, Sudan) and Squirrels (Benin)

Eagles probably come closest to challenging (Syria, Mali, Nigeria, Tunisia, Albania, Poland, Serbia).

Bears don't even make an appearance.

Should be a stoat or a grass snake...

Proper English animals...

We need the Australia points system for any lions coming over here jumping on our crests
