the punch was far better than the kick
travesty that it isn't considered the greatest moment in football history imo

"Eric was a big, strong lad. He was serious. He insisted he was going to kill that f***er. It took the combined efforts of the manager, Brian Kidd and a few of the players to restrain him." The players were ordered to shower two at a time so Cantona would not be left alone in the dressing room. Then he was led to the bus, which was soon to have bricks put through its windows.

The kick was clumsy, particularly when he fell on his arse but the windmilling was divine. I would have loved it if Eric had pulled him out onto the pitch and they all got stuck in, with Ferie hoofing him into the ribs Basil Fawlty style on Lord Melbury before sneaking off.

Still not forgiven Tommy Docherty and Willy Morgan (who?) for calling for Eric to be sacked.

Oh yes - I remember...

footnote to that tale is that welcome to hell was a reaction to english stereotyping of turkey and to english media coverage surrounding the game, calling the turks animals and all that shite... little englander shocker

and rothlisburger was sent home from the 94 world cup for being bent, allegedly, when he cheated bulgaria of a stonewall - absolutely blatant - penalty against germany (in the Q/F iirc) that would have deservedly put them in the lead. he has since been done for corruption and imo was undoubtedly £#%&!ing bent in that galatasaray match.
