Default "SAF never forgave me for rejected United" says Oliver Kahn

Quote:
Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn thinks Sir Alex Ferguson has never forgiven him for rejecting United 21 years ago.

Kahn was the Bayern goalkeeper beaten by Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 1999 Champions League final and faced United seven times in three years with the German giants.

The Champions League winner told fans' website Fanbookz he received a "serious offer" from United in 1994 whilst at Karlsruher SC, when he would have been 25-years-old.

Peter Schmeichel was United's established No.1 with Gary Walsh his deputy, and Kahn instead opted to join Bayern, with whom he played 14 seasons before retiring in 2008.

"Alex Ferguson has never forgotten that," Kahn said. "He still holds that against me to this day."

According to former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, Kahn committed a cardinal sin.

"You never say no to Sir Alex," the Dane said on the same programme.

"It would have been a good experience for Kahn (at United)."

Schmeichel preserved United's lead in the '99 Champions League final with saves from Carsten Jancker and Stefan Effenburg after conceding Mario Basler's early strike.

Kahn lifted the trophy two years later when Bayern beat Valencia on penalties in Milan.
Very surprising to be honest. Couldn't see him being happy to be a #2 at United - especially with how well Schmeichel was playing at the time.

The offer was in 2004, not 1994. Papers got it wrong.

He'll think twice before posting a (vaguely) United-related thread again.

Seriously though, here's what Kahn said. He & Schmikes debate AT LENGTH what year it was; brainless journos get it wrong by a decade.

Dear Peakers,

This is how it starts.

You post snippets of banal news harvested, or curated indeed, from other freely available media channels. They range from the completely £#%&!ing obvious to the wholly inaccurate (see example above).

Next up your vblogging from your basement flat in Merthyr with a twitch.

Think on.
