Fergie time, does it exist? Interesting read with stats.
http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20464371
"When Man Utd were losing, they had an average of four minutes and 37 seconds added time, Alexander says, compared with three minutes and 18 seconds when they were winning." "For the other, so-called top teams, other than Chelsea, all of them had longer games on average when they were losing." "Her calculations show that if the home team is winning, then the added time is cut by 46 seconds." "So Fergie time does appear to exist, especially if one of these strong teams is playing at home. This applies to Chelsea too." "There is no statistical proof that Fergie time applies specifically to Man Utd. But the statistics do show a bias towards big teams." |

The important point that this silly article raises is not whether there is bias toward United but how bad the cynical gamesmanship is becoming at the end of games. It's become the norm now for a team who are getting something from us to start dropping like flies from the 70th minute onward, and for all their ballboys to suddenly disappear. A much more interesting study would look at how long the ball is in play during the final stages of a match we are drawing/losing. |
