Football The 1985/86 Season

Who remembers it?

I was 18 months old when that season started so that counts me out

The reason why it's significant is because this start is the best one we've had since 85/86.

We won our first 10 games in the league

My first season of going to all home games with my mates.

My Mam wouldn't let me go to City away without any adults, said I was too young at twelve.

As soon as the sale of Hughes was agreed the season fell apart. The second half of the season was painful.

3 wins in our last 10 games is piss-poor.

The end of that season was the first time I heard the joke "How do you come 4th in a two-horse race? Ask Ron Atkinson."

False dawn and all that.

to be fair to the fat racist, united's "collapse" may have had something to do with losing the entire £#%&!ing midfield in the days when (a) we had one and (b) we didn't have three or four of them.

Brian Clough said we came 4th in a 2 horse race. The first 10 games were excellent. the 3-0 at Maine road was great......bring on the champions before the game.

The 1 nil defeat at Sheff Wed the match special got home after 10 oclock

Clearing out a cupboard a while back, I found a programme from a local league final I played in April '86. The @#%&! plastic Scouse coach did £#%&! programme notes on each player - on mine, it included the words "long suffering and delusional Manchester United supporter".

Luckily, the horrible old @#%&! is dead - but not before he saw the treble season.
