completely agree on jones as the original idea going into the season...

as for darmian, he can cover across the back line so i suppose that's the thinking. like smalling he's a good defender when he's in the right position. and like smalling he's too easily drawn out of position and prone to panic.

in a proper team you do need a proper defender or two and especially one at centre back. but you need them to bring something extra to the party, whether that's libero skills, brilliant reading of the game or proper leadership... ours bring none of the above.

He's been quality this season in the main. He's been a very good signing. Plus, he's an absolute £#%&!ing dreamboat.

An outstanding footballer- hopefully when the defence is settled he can move into the holding role in front - where he'll see the ball slightly more advanced.

He ain't good enough to anchor our midfield mate unless 4th is the new target.

in a fantasy football world where you're basically just picking 11 individuals maybe. In the real world where you're picking a team and tactics then he's ideal...

Bit straw man to hint I'm after some kind of superstar policy because I don't think Blind's top class.

I've spent many a thread sticking up for Park Ji-Sung so don't come at me from that angle love.

I'd agree with that, look how OShea served us for instance.

I just happen to think he's cover personally.

Oh righto, I didn't think anybody else considered picking him in the "real world" or for a "team", which might use "tactics".

but he's probably the most technically and tactically astute footballer we have. he reads the game better than anyone in our defence. he's not a natural defender of course, but he's made no more mistakes this season than any of our actual defenders - probably fewer. and he can actually play football properly as well. basically what's not to like...

Out of Dutch training with a tight hamstring. Told reporters nothing too serious.

Hopefully Blind Senior doing his lad and us a sly favour
