I reckon SAF was on a bonus scheme of sorts with the Glazers based on keeping the net transfer spend down to maximize profit, or something.

I had wondered that myself.

Either that or he was doing it for a bet.

Fat Sam : "Win the league with that midfield... you're having laugh Alec"

SAF : "Going to put your money where your mouth is ?"

Fat Sam : "Aye, a ton says you can't do it"

SAF : "Throw in a bottle of St Emilion Grande Cru and you're on"

Evans overtook Young in most hated player last year and rightly so. He's panicky whinging when he had the ball were the most annoying part of the season for me as he was the most senior defender and considering what he just got married and started a family he should have been showing some maturity. Interestingly it seemed that any big powerful centre forward made him an absolute wreck (Benteke Villa away,Cisse Newcastle away M K Dons away) shows to me he hasn't the courage or composure to play for us.

He'll probably want to run his contract down and leave on a free like Cleverly.
The fact I'm more interested in what happens to Helen Evans career at United than his says it all.

Quick Woody, club him over the back of the head and get him to sign the deal while he's insensible

There is no way we are getting 8m, hes only got a year left on his deal.

Maybe 8m is the full package inc wages.

So many of our young players have not developed as expected in recent years. Evans is one of the more frustrating ones, had all the ability, clearly a good professional. Major issue would be a lack of mental toughness and competitive edge to his game, in short he could be bullied.

In that 4-0 loss at West Ham in the Carling Cup his performance was one of the most inept defensive showings I can remember from a Utd player. Contributed to our most recent title wins, just a pity he could not make that next step.
