Default Big Dazza

We may just have found our replacement for Gary Neville.

We haven't conceded a goal with him at the back.

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant.

And if you through a party
Invited everyone you ever knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend.

Against Watford and Sheffield United.

After the Roma game I pointed out that the time and space afforded to him made him look like a decent player. The Scottish Veron. Unfortunately he seems to be losing weight instead of gaining it, so the days when he can hold his own in midfield in the Premier League is still a long way off.

Hugh McIlvanney, about the only journalist worth listening to, echoed these thoughts on Sunday.

Quote:
They were so trundlingly slow, on and off the ball, that a player such as Darren Fletcher, who is usually noted for industrious competence, had the leisure to look stylish and ambitious.

Yeh, it wasn't any of his own work was it?

What do you mean? If you stand off players, like Roma did, they have more time and space and therefore it is much easier to play. It's not rocket science. Have you ever played football?

In England you don't get that time and space. Do you remember how Veron looked like a genius against the likes of Juventus and like a cripple against the likes of Bolton and Boro?

What a tit.

So none of our players found any time and space for themselves?

Their whole system was set up to stop our midfield playing but they failed.

Did De Rossi intentionally gave them as much time and space as they wanted?

No he didn't, but the rest of his team did.

Now, now Terry, you'll upset the Golden Girls if you don't join the love in for their new talisman. Say after me, Fletchers almost as good as Pip Neville was.

Yeah well it's wrong.

They didn't go out to contain us home or away. They were confident enough to play their own system which was ridiculously open.

Fletcher was made for a game like the roma game.

You clearly don't understand the difference between European and English football, but I'll persist anyway.

De Rossi was playing in front of Roma's back 4 and supposed to handle Giggs. Fletcher was playing much deeper, so I don't really know what you're getting at. Did you even watch the game?

Fletcher had time and space every time he got the ball as the the attacking midfielders of Roma, along with Totti, weren't prepared to do what our front 4 did all game i.e pressurise and close down.

Defensively Fletcher did better than I have seen him do before, but don't try to make more of this than there is. He has stagnated for 3 years, making no progress. It will take more than a decent game against Roma, and average games in defence against 2 of the worst teams in the league to convince anyone other than a cretin that he is United material.

That Fergie is about to spend nearly £20m on another midfielder, relegating Fletcher even further down the pecking order, shows that he won't be fooled by a couple of ok performances amid the abundance of dire ones. Portsmouth away, anyone?

Oh and remember, that Roma game was not won by the unbelivable running of Ronaldo. It wasn't won by the sheer class of Carrick. It wasn't won by the power of Rooney either. Nor was it won by the sheer hard work of Smith. It wasn't even won by the brilliant positional play and passing of Giggs. Oh no, there was one reason and one reason only for that win and I think you know who that was.
