The identity of a Premier League footballer who obtained a High Court injunction to stop a story about him being published is set to be revealed.

Lawyers for the star - who is a household name - had been granted a court order preventing him from being named but it was overturned by Mr Justice Tugendhat in the High Court in London on November 5. The star's legal team were given two weeks to lodge an appeal - but yesterday the judge extended that deadline to next Wednesday.

Judge Tugendhat added that the media will be allowed to publish the player's name in reports of the hearing.

He said there was "sufficient general public interest in publishing a report of proceedings which identifies the claimant to justify any resulting curtailment of the rights of the claimant and his family to respect for their private and family life".

The player follows Chelsea and England star John Terry in using the courts to try to block damaging publicity.

Terry's injunction banning reporting of his alleged affair with model Vanessa Perroncel was overturned this year.

English International and plays for the red variant of the Scousers apparently , no, not the Phil Collins lover.
Oh that's a shame, as it would have been highly amusing if it had been him.
