Default 49 unbeaten - the 'invincibles'

10 years since we ended it according to the mail.

Greatest premiership team of all time they say - despite their 7 defeats across all comps (we had four defeats in 98/99)

They didn't ever retain the trophy either.

Discuss

Nothing to discuss. A complete non-event.

Wouldn't have happened without that @#%&! Pires diving against Portsmouth.

This. A bit of gamesmanship is fine but that was blatant cheating.

Their arse seeing when we ended it was superb though

Their 1998 and 2002 teams were far far better. The 1998 one especially.

They weren't even given a decent challenge from anyone in 2004. They drew 5 out of their last 10 games in the league and still won it by 11 points. There was no challenge or competition for them.

Their 2002 double winning team scored more goals and won the same amount of games as their 'invincibles'. They also strung together a whopping 13 consecutive wins at the end of the season which is a far greater achievement than going through a season and drawing a shit ton of games.

Juve went unbeaten for a whole season a couple of years back and Capello's Milan did it in the 90s and had an even longer unbeaten run but the Italian media or the European media in general don't seem to make such a big deal out of it

They were a great side but as Sparky said if they were so great then why did they not even get to the Semi's of the Champions League or retain their title the following season

Average team.

United have had about four better teams in the last 20 years alone.

Nft.

Clearly not average. But they are wildly overrated.

Compare & contrast.... United's longest unbeaten run (all major competitions):

45 matches, 26 December 1998 to 3 October 1999

It would be embarrassing for any other club but Arsenal that they were so comprehensively beaten in all aspects by the above stat bar the "going the whole season" one. Who the £#%&! cares? It's like winning the £#%&!ing par league

They were good, but you could definitely get amongst them and they were far more arrogant than they had a right to be. They were the width of a bar away from not going unbeaten.

Sparky is right, 1998 and 2002 were much better. 98 was the best Premier League 11 Arsenal have managed to put out before or since. Their best performance was probably that 4-1 at Blackburn when they scored 4 goals in 20 minutes. That was a decent Blackburn side then too.

And they pitched up at that game looking for a 0-0.

Was there any truth in the rumours about the '50 not out' tshirts they had hung up at OT?

They didn't even do it first, Preston North End did.

That Cup win was so satisfying, more so than undoing the winning run because we looked such underdogs with Ruud out. Also Saha's late equaliser in the league the previous week was pretty special.
