Let's hope Rooney's rug rethink is more convincing than his striking replacement, though if blame is ultimately to be apportioned, the unnecessary yellow card in Wales that allowed Rooney to book a hair appointment instead of helping ensure Euro 2012 qualification might be the best place to start.

Most of the kids pitches are basically adult pitches and Local Authority maintained and much of this work has been contracted out. At best they get a quick cut and bit of white lining and that's about it.

For kids to improve technique they need dedicated pitches with grass not weeds but we'd rather pay Premiership players 200k per week.

Why do councils take down the football nets on pitches at the end of the season? They don't use the field for £#%&! all else in the summer months. Dicks
