Attacking talent aside, and nobody else in England can really touch them in that respect, City really aren't all that impressive. A number of players coming towards the end of their prime, or some years past it, as in the case of Toure, and a consistent lack of collective organisation and tactical discipline. A lot of work to be done there if they want to become a really top team, capable of dominating the league and seriously competing at European level.

Is that what we've become?

It's like a throwback to the days when we were linked with Thomas Graveson and Morst Gamst Pedersen.

Almost 57% of minutes played at City this season have gone to players aged 29 and over; the highest figure in the league and close to double the average.

They are going to be extremely active in the transfer market in the coming years. If Guardiola arrives in the summer, I could see them bringing in 6 or 7 players with him. It might well make more sense for them to forget about continuity and instead to form a new group, and have Guardiola work with them, rather than trying to coach a lot of senior players who don't fit his profile and will, most likely, need to be shipped during his tenure anyway.

How?

They've exploited the broader scandals in UEFA and fifa but, ultimately, the logic of FFP will hit them again.

New TV deal and stadium expansion will dramatically increase their revenues. Around £50m p/a from the TV deal and another £5-10m p/a, I would guess, from the stadium expansion. New commercial deals. Also talk about then renegotiating their agreements with Nike and possibly even Etihad. If they can shift some unwanted high-earning players, too, there'll be scope for massive spending on transfer fees - which are amortised, don't forget - and wages of new recruits. They could certainly bring in six players in the summer, if they decide to go down that route.

NQAT, easy to forget they just dropped £60m on KDB and £50m on Sterling only 6 months ago. Not forgetting £33m on Otamendi. All in the same summer before the likely fast growing revenue in coming 18 months.

Dark days coming if they start signing Aguero/Silva/Toure level players again with a coach like Guardiola.
