Piers Morgan did worse and he's on telly every day. Same with Joey Barton and Stevie G and they're everywhere at the minute.

Big Ron said some nasty words, he was wrong, but they were only words.

Brian Moore / Big Ron - best commentary team ever after JR / King.

Boy George was an absolute git to this guy and nobody gives the guy any shit just because he's gay. He sits there stinking up the Voice or whatever it is called

Always thought Boy George was a bad 'un from the outset - its always good to have one's suspicions confirmed about these things.

As for Big (insert other epithets as applicable) Ron, he is probably quite content to just do a part time MUTV gig at his age I would have thought.

(have I ever mentioned that my dad played football with him in the RAF, btw? I may have done )

Think he's more racially insensitive than racist, tbh. Like most old people.

I remember catching sight of a tabloid newspaper the day after the Desailly incident and the headline was "Bigot Ron".

However in my bleary eyedness I misread it as "Bigotron". Thinking it was in reference to some destructive racist robot.

I agree with this.

My father in law is the same age and with him it comes across as insensitivity rather than outright racism. For many people that generation the first 50 or so years of their life it was ok to say stuff like that and even if downright racist comments were made, they were rarely challenged. Things didn't really start to change in England at least, until the mid 1980s.

Not excusing it in any way, just saying.

All very true - but as someone with the life experiences he has had, he should still have known better.
