can't really argue or care. ridiculous balance in that team (no wingers, three centre forwards, no defensive midfielders), but still...

otamendi is crap, though. gets away with all kinds of shit, but isn't actually very good. wouldn't swap him for smalling.

not a single success story in the post-Fergie years.
Just a plethora of ageing 'big names' and spineless bores.

Genuinely no idea what the answer is at this stage tbh
Every year we seem further away from where we need to be.

Alonso is very overrated. Scores a few goals to mask the fact he is a shit defender. He gets away with murder.

Think Vertonghen is a bit of a bluffer as well, part of a good team but as an individual rather flawed. Standard of defenders world wide is strikingly bad.

I know what you're getting at in terms of pure defending. That said he is very good at bringing the ball out.

A slightly more cultured Silvestre? Otamendi and Vertonghen. PFA team of the year but in a big game I would look at that as a vulnerable pairing to attack.

Alderweireld is better than both imo, but in a typical Spurs fashion still has to prove it when it matters.

I can see him in the Madrid team tbh.

As for Remismoses point, completely agree, better than Coutinho, far harder to nullify and his team plays through him.

Nah, he's 6th in the scorers charts and the 2 below him have comparable scoring rates...
