(summer) silly season 2011 transfer thread

Very big summer for United imo. I think we'll spend even with the Glazers. United have no excuses this summer, there is a few leaving and areas needs strengthening.

We won't sign anybody at the prices currently being paid, I doubt we'll ever buy anyone again.

Yesterdays transfer merry go round puts my value somewhere around £3m, and I haven't played for 3 months. :shakehead: £#%&!ing absurd.

Think people are slightly exaggerating what went on yesterday tbh. When you look at it in the cold light of day, it's not that crazy, and certainly not evidence that transfer fees are gonna be inflated in the summer.

Torres for £50m is perfectly reasonable really, within the altered reality of football of course. Luiz for £21m and Suarez for £22m are both pretty decent deals I'd say. The only really crazy price I can see is the Carroll one, which was obviously a last-minute panic buy that wouldn't have happened if not for the Torres deal. Very much a one-off though.

Fair assesment but the question is why are clubs so desperate that they need to strengthen now, Chelsea i can understand but Torres wont get a full pre-season of knowing the players and there style so he could take some time to get going at Chelsea.

But Liverpool why did they NEED to spend £10-£15m over the odds right now, surely if they had waiten until the Summer, they could of got a decent and cheaper deal for him?

Anders Lindegaard, Chris Smalling, erm, there was someone else, I'm sure there was...

Oh yeah, Hernandez, although, we technically bought him before the 'Summer' thread started so I'm not sure he counts. Still, the best signing by anyone so far, arguably.
