we don't benefit from him spending most of the season suspended, injured or on the bench at crystal £#%&!ing palace.

RB then, not the rampaging DM that so many pegged him as instantly despite him never actually playing there...

In the first team.

Was at RB or CB most of the times I've seen him for the reserves btw.

he's never played midfield unless you count the times he's played midfield.

About 10 minutes for the firsts and occasionally for the stiffs.

John O'Shea played in midfield on occasion pal, everybody still knew he wasn't a midfielder...

Could probably have done with it last season instead of a year on the shelf.

De Boer (if he isn't sacked by October) will give him chances if he deserves them and develop him. Could be a great move for him.

Completely forgot De Boer went there. Should be an interesting one to work with.

he has played midfield for ajax, for us and for holland - not just defensive midfield either. maybe he would ideally be rb or cb, but defensive midfield is a position where we have been weak (hence buying matic) and many have said he should play there. as it happens, I wasn't that impressed by his pre-season attempts to take a man on down the right, but he is a very solid and dynamic (if impetuously aggressive, but then the same could be said of bailly) player. the point isn't really about his ability to play midfield so much as where we need someone... and I would have said right across the back four and in midfield we are still a bit suspect. obviously, if he could play on the wing or as centre forward, that would be great too. £#%&!ing hell, we are farming out a young prospect and keeping a bunch of mediocre @#%&!. one day, I hope to see the same look on young timmeh's face as we saw on john o'shea's after that goal against arsenal. I fear that playing for palace is more likely to put focus on his desperate lunges, but if he plays like he did against spurs for a season, I am sure even jose will notice.

Yeah ideal. De Boer was working in the Ajax academy when Mensah was there so will know him well.

Brave choice to take the Palace job tbh. Trying to teach Townsend, Zaha and Benteke a more structured play could go very LvG

Yeah. He'd have been better off going, you know, not there.

I expect you will keep half an eye on the situation there.
