I am really not feeling the reasoning for selling him when you look around at our challengers and their struggles to put out solid defensive units.. Why would Utd weaken one of their main areas of strength? He is a much better player than most give him credit for, with obvious weaknesses taken into account.

With Lindelof still trying to settle and Rojo still a long way off it would be foolish to let him go at this stage. In his last game he was probably our best player against Madrid, defended excellently in that match.

We should realistically be getting in the region of £30m for him in the current market, especially when you factor in the English nationality, which usually adds on £5m-£10m.

He'd be perfect for a West Brom/Stoke/Arsenal.
The problem with United is they put players on big wages when they sign them. If they turn out to be no longer good enough, those wages force a cheaper sale. United will only get maximum transfer value if a player has a decent length on his contract and is moving sideways or up, in wages terms.

Reeks of revisionism this. Smalling was outstanding the season before last, barely put a foot wrong all year and was one of the few positives of that period. Jones hugely out of favour during that same period and ridiculed by lots of the same people on here that are now saying he's great. Both are fine defenders on their day but have struggled for consistency over longer periods because of injuries and instability/general £#%&!ery post fergie. No way should he be sold

See also Rojo. Poor for 2 1/2 of his 3 years at Utd but a good 6 months and his reputation has totally changed.

Utd have an excellent group of defenders, but fans need a scapegoat. None of them are shit, none of them have established themselves as indisputably world class yet. High hopes for Bailly though.

Every single one of our defensive options has had large sections of the support calling for them to be sold on a regular basis, bar bailly - and there's plenty of time yet. And it's easily been the least problematic part of our side for quite a while now. Imagine the carnage on here if they were actually shit. Like Liverpool shit

Indeed, one of the better of a bad bunch. He's mentally weak, thought he'd mature as he got older but nah. Sell him in January when Rojo is back and Linders has had a bit of a chance to settle.
