Van Gaal won United's first trophy in the post-Fergie era, and left the first-team squad with a nucleus of brilliant young players who have the potential to be as good as the Class of '92.

Wouldn't expect any of that to be high on your radar though, when American pop music celebrations, number of black players in the first XI, and hashtag trends seem to be your measures of success.

Yeah van Gaal left us with a nucleus of young players - Martial and Rashford. One of whom was stumbled on in the midst of an injury-crises. Fosu-Mensah was dropped after one his first bad game, and Borthwick-Jackson disappeared even when apparently back to full fitness.

Best thing about van Gaal was his record against Liverpool. Well until the Europa games.
