Because the alternative needs too much long-term strategy and no-one can make a fast buck out of it, apparently.

Otherwise it would have been done.

What do I do with the few pennies I have after I take them out of the bank?

Buy something that will have no resale value?
Keep it and watch the purchasing power slip away as hyper-inflation takes its toll?

bloody hell, I was going to say that derivatives are used to hedge real exposure and that without them people would still be speculating by holding unhedged positions and maybe mention that bringing down the banks would more than £#%&! up the economy, but then I got to the bit where I was called everyday folk and now I can't see throught the smoke and enamel grindings. bad form, bad form.
