Great shout that, never even came into my mind but hes my no 1 choice now A great bridge between Cook and Root. Will makes Roots life in a little easier imo

I've had the impression that Root was being blooded for the captaincy for a while now.

Reminds me of the 1980s when Australia decided to blood Wessels when after the Kim Hughes fiasco Alan Border found himself in the job almost by default, we didn't want a repeat.

Blood Wessels, pretty pathetic joke that.

I think England will look across at smith and see how well hes carried the form through and we'll go with Root.

I just can't see root captaining and scoring runs in Aus. It's a big big ask. Never mind about wi and sa at home no one cares
