Did note a few euphemistic references to how much their standard has declined since the WC

I don’t get how Lukaku’s first goal is onside. Surely if the defender has to consider him (and he does Lukaku is goal side) there he’s off.

Yeah, it's stupid. If the defender hadn't touched the ball it would've been offside.

But imo if the ball is played and you are offside then you are offside regardless of what happens next. It's a misinterpretation of the intention of the rules. It has to be if you were offside when the ball was played you are offside.

Absolutely that.

The defence could play him offside then mis control it to him - off should be off in that scenario especially when the cross was aimed for him.

Yeah, it’s bullocks. You see it a lot: defender goes to clear the ball, plays it to the forward.... but he’s only clearing it because there’s a forward behind him... who is offside.

I do in general like the phase of play rule. If for e.g. the defender controls it and goes to play it back to the keeper. Lukaku cuts it out and scored then that's onside as the phase of play has changed. Defending team is now in possession and has started an attack

The keeper in theory could of come out and picked up that ball and no pass back would of been called. So Lukaku has to be offside. The rules are wrong

Even if the defender controls it and stands there with the ball. Lukaku cannot touch it as the phase of play has still not changed. Belgium are still in the attack so the last pass is still live. So lukaku is offside

Imo of course
