Ian Rush (Circa 83/84)

Hughes? Master of the spectacular but hardly the greatest 'finisher'.

Ruud that first year, he just didn't seem capable of missing

I hate to say it but Robbie Fowler was one of the best when he first came on the scene, odious scouse @#%&! that he is

The best finisher?

Easy, Micky Quinn, he could finish a cod and chips in no time.

Andy Cole at Newcastle was £#%&!ing incredible too.

His goals to games ratio slowed at United but he vastly improved as an all round player.

Was about to post the same - sorry chaps, but Hughsey was not a great finisher.

Already mentioned by several people but it has to be Fat Ronaldo, Ruud and Shevchenko (pre Chelsea!)

George along with the rest of his attributes was a great finisher. Also in my time Denis Law and Jimmy Greaves in my early years. Obvious I know but little mention in this thread. 70s and 80s Rush, Bob Latchford and Martin McGaughey. 90s to date SOP, Fowler and Ole. McCoist except it was in Scotland.

I'm surprised to be 30-odd posts in and only a couple have mentioned Fowler. When he came on to the scene he was amazing, thankfully he didn't achieve what he should have or them @#%&!s would have won a lot more than they did. He'd have been a £#%&!in' legend if he'd played for us, although I'm happy enough that he didn't.

I was a huge fan of van Basten, great feet for such a big lad. He could do it all.

Too young for Greaves or Muller, although from what I'm told, they were as good as any.

He didn't do it for long enough and was no great shakes at international level. I wouldn't class him in the company mentioned here.
