ftr he was explaining their responsibilities on defensive set pieces, depending on who else was on the pitch at the time.

Legendary goalkeeper coach, tho I don't think he was the right coach for Dave. He tried hard to get him to stop using his legs/feet to make saves, which falls under the 'don't fix if not broke' category. He did get him coming for balls in behind the back four quicker, which is good.

Probably better for a keeper of De Gea's talent to have new faces coaching. As I say, he's going to naturally have an upward curve as he gets older because of his talent but having quality coaches like Steele, Woods and Hoek mean he can pick up different pieces to add or refine to his game.

Sling yer Hoek.

Mourinho has a goalkeeping coach he carries around everywhere doesn't he?

Aye. Silvino Lauro (ex Portugal GK)

But like Hoek, Lauro is considered an assistant coach who specialises in goalkeeping. So he has a wider role as a coach. There's a great video on Hoek's methods to develop passing from the back and that explains why Daley Blind was always starting week after week at CB because he has been ingrained with that style since a kid.

Has a very good record with keepers doesn't he? Julio Cesar looked a world beater when Mou was at Intier.

Cech and Courtois for Chelsea (can argue Courtois was already world class when he returned from work experience)

Extended Vitor Baia's career when ironically LvG booted him out of Barca . Baia was named UEFA GK of the Year when Porto won the CL.

Also Diego Lopez enjoyed a brief but high level of performance when they dumped Casillas. That night at Old Trafford he was excellent the @#%&!

Indeed. De Gea certainly won't have lacked for quality coaching in his career

If it hadn't been certainly coming for a couple of weeks post Upton Park, it might have finished me off tbh

The Dutch School will rise again at United, imo. Just wasn't quite the right time

The club started to book hotel rooms for two nights instead of one, so that their own cleaning staff could be dispatched in advance. They brought mattresses tailored to each player, plus duvets, sheets and pillow cases washed by the club with the same washing powder. That way, sleeping would feel and smell the same wherever they played.

Good stuff.

As mentioned in the piece, it all comes from the Dutch school that influenced Bielsa. He's an LvG joyboy for life too, of course

Quote:
Bielsa once said that if football were played by robots, he would always win. Accordingly, Pochettino seems to try to make his players as close to robotic as possible. Youngsters are ideal for this because they are easier to manage, receptive to new ideas, and bring energy and enthusiasm. As such, all three factors are interlinked.
Straitjackets etc.

Double and even treble sessions in pre season, too. Wonder if the players went to see him to complain
