So, it's all systems go apparently. Will officially be passed as law of the game on Saturday. Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga have all announced they're using it from next season with the Premier League yet to decide. I assume the powers that be think the trials went well.

Death of football?

As we know it Jim!
Bunker mentioned previously its interfering with a real time game which is not intended to be examined by still frames. Goal line issues different these are absolutes, but not judgement calls.

Ref's will hide behind VAR, scared being caught out , wait till it gets to deciding 'a clear and obvious foul throw' lol

100% will be the death of the game.

Should of stuck at goal line technology which is ace. Instant decision and it's never wrong.

This f***ing farce will kill it. End it now.

How can anyone see the ways it's been implemented think it's being used to the benefit of the game.

Just get rid of the linesman and ref and let some twirp in st.georges park tv room ref it. As that's the way it looks to be going. Utter shite

That's definitive black or white and its been brilliant. The rest of the decisions are conjecture and it will just not work imo.

Spot on, get rid of the £#%&!er. If they insist on keeping it at all, it needs to just be for offsides as that (should be ) black and white aswell. But as Mata's goal showed, they can still £#%&! that up. Having it for debatable fouls is £#%&!ing madness.

I liked the idea of each team having one referral or whatever you want to call it. Would work a lot better than the current set up/mess

"The first half was a little bit embarrassing for everyone. Difficult to keep focus and play football. I am not sure that the system is going to help.

"Football is about emotion, it's a context of emotion if we are going to kill emotion in football. I think the fans of people who love football are not so happy about what they see today.

"I think in my opinion we have the best referees in Europe, in the world, and I think we don't need too much. Football is about mistakes, like us, the players can make mistakes, the refs can make mistakes. And it was always like this, and we understood football in this way.

It's all very well managers complaining about VAR, but if they get rid of it, maybe they should agree to stop whining every time a ref gets something wrong.

It’s amazing that video technology works perfectly well in every other sport in the world yet our FA manage to completely £#%&! it up. It’s probably working fine in the other leagues too hence the reason to introduce it full time.

Anyone in favour of this shit has very little understanding of the game of association football and as for peeling the professional game away from all other levels very very bad for a game that's dying on it's arse in terms of participation.

They restrict use of it massively in the NBA as well, only really look at it for potential foul play and out of bounds decisions and the refs only have free access to it for the final 2 minutes of the game. This idea of video tech being only a positive that does not impinge on the natural flow of sports does not really stand up to examination. Tennis makes the best use of it but there are no subjective decisions to be made and the normal 20-30 second gap between points allows it to be unobtrusive.

Football does not really work to view in short form. It is the rhythm of a game, the back and forth struggle that gives a late winner so much emotional momentum. Long periods of any given match can have midfield scraps and little in the way of goalmouth action, break those up into little 3/5/7 min sections between gaps for VAR and those down moments lose their in game context and just become dull. We all know from watching and playing that the worst games are those which are constantly stop start, for injuries, too many fouls, crap to watch and to play in.

They also need to do something about the time keeping when it is in use, refs estimating how much time is to be added on has always been a small issue but now with multiple stoppages they have to make sure little game time is lost.

If it potentially saves us from another Porto 04 or Drogba and Terry 09/10, then work away

Why it's been dodgy thus far is beyond me quite frankly. Wouldn't have thought that
