Phil Neville to join Moyes' backroom staff at Manchester United

Phil Neville will return to his old club Manchester United as a coach this summer to join David Moyes' backroom staff, with an announcement expected soon.

The former United player, who came through the club's academy, played for Moyes at Everton for eight years and has had a range of job offers this summer, including a coach's role at Stoke City.

It marks a meteoric rise for the Neville brothers in recent years. Gary Neville is a key figure in Roy Hodgson's staff with the England team. Phil will join coach Jimmy Lumsden and goalkeeping coach Chris Woods as part of Moyes' staff. He will work with Stuart Pearce with the England Under-21s at the European Championship this summer.

As 1st team coach?

Was concerned about his lack of experience but Grimson reckons he'll only be putting the players through drills (I thought the role might be a bit more involved).

Considering Phil's inexperience, is it safe to assume that Moyes wants to dictate tactics and formations with minimal input from the coaching staff?

If so, is that a good thing?

Moyes rumoured to be planning a ritual smashing of said instrument at his first squad meeting, provoking a mixture of fear and liberation among the inmates.

As long as Moyes did the tactics for playing against us and not against Wigan at Goodison last season, yes.

classic rhodzy. If the club accidently released nerve gas into the stands mid game he would say it's a great move.
