I've never understood this. If you're prepared to spend that much money, why not identify the best young players in Europe and around the world and see if you can't wedge them up to come over? In a lot of cases these kids haven't hit the big time yet money wise, so it might be possible. Why waste it on a bunch of has-beens with suspect temperaments and worse injury records who are basically looking for one final pay day before binning it?
