It is part of BT's wider competition with Sky, Virgin etc. They are attracting more customers to their products through sport. BT make ridiculous profits, and they keep increasing.

Presumably because it's more aesthetically pleasing and less hassle than hooking up your laptop to the TV every saturday, but the software in question can just as easily be installed on a PC, phone or tablet (iOS devices must be jailbroken).

Ok my box has arrived... Anyone know any good sources of information for installing and configuring HD apps / capability?

Yes but I thought some experts on here might help... I've got all the sports channels but they're mostly in SD
