Fergie said at the time they got a tip off from their man in the region, did a bit of YouTube research by the sounds of things and sent Jim Lawlor the chief scout over to Mexico to check him out over three weeks. He scored in every game apparently and got called up for Mexico so they pushed it through before the World Cup. What a signing.

tbf he played for Club America. Not that Mexicans are huge commodities in European football, but Club America is a big club and lots of European scouts would have been aware of him. United just got in first and made it happen.
