Wow, what a turnaround.

The report says he probably wouldn't be arriving until the summer. Would be nice to get someone in who can actually contribute this season.

Indeed. Though if he's staying there until the summer, why the rush to get the deal done before this window closes?

Could be a huge boost to get him over now. Exactly the type of player we need, albeit obviously very inexperienced.

It'd be Mata and Herrera most under threat wouldn't it..?

I think Van Gaal would probably see Sanches for the Fellaini role, as a central midfielder with licence to move around. So in the current system Mata and Herrera are sharing the no10 position. But if there's a system change now or next season, possibly without Van Gaal, then maybe a 4-3-3 and Mata in particular could be in trouble. Could see a Schweini-Sanches-Herrera midfield given a try.

Let's hope so. Because the mere fact that that should be considered the "Fellaini role" is a £#%&!ing travesty.

Serious q, you don't think we've failed this player?

He made it pretty clear from day 1 he didn't want him or David Luiz(remember the stories when Chelsea came in for Rooney in 2013?) Not sure how that is failing him.

Keep playing players out of position for a long time, play bloodless, no risk, percentage football. That is failing a player imo.

If anything Mata looked better on the right than he has in the no10 role. System and style should suit him, too. He's Spanish.

United only failed Mata in buying him in the first place. Simply not good enough.

Mata is a great player, he's playing in a team that creates nothing. Very harsh to write him off considering what we've seen of him last season and at Chelsea. He'd be phenomenal in a team with a more vibrant attack.

Mata is a very good player but I never understood why we bought him. Would move him on in the summer.
