Manchester United believe Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti holds the key to £35m Wesley Sneijder deal
Manchester United believe Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti holds the key to a £3 5million deal for Wesley Sneijder with David Gill due to discuss a move for the player with senior Inter officials at a European Club Association meeting in Zurich on Wednesday.

By Mark Ogden, Boston6:30AM BST 14 Jul 2011
United are determined to accelerate moves to sign Sneijder after overcoming concerns over the Dutch midfielder’s wage demands at Old Trafford.
Talks between United chief executive Gill and associates close to the Sneijder camp earlier this week are understood to have resulted in assurances that the player could be tempted away from the San Siro for the same £190,000-a-week deal he earns at Inter should the Italians agree to sell.
United have yet to lodge a formal bid for the 27-year-old, but despite the public insistence of Inter’s technical director Marco Branca that Sneijder is ‘not for sale,’ senior figures at Inter, including Moratti, are open to the sale of the former Real Madrid player in order to enable new coach Gian Piero Gasperini to reshape the club’s ageing squad.
Inter have already identified Palermo playmaker Javier Pastore as a potential replacement for Sneijder and AC Milan’s withdrawal from the race to sign the Argentine has paved the way for Inter to make their move should they agree to negotiate Sneijder’s sale to United.
The final decision on Sneijder will be left to Moratti, however, and that reality has raised confidence at Old Trafford due to Inter’s need for transfer funds and the oil tycoon’s track record for cashing in on star players, such as Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

United are prepared for Inter to make attempts to drive up Sneijder’s transfer fee and the player’s reluctance to submit a transfer request could see hopes for a deal reach a stalemate.
But with Sneijder’s personal terms no longer viewed as an insurmountable obstacle at Old Trafford, the financial benefits to Inter of selling the player are the trump card in United’s favour.
United would have to raise Sneijder above Wayne Rooney in the club’s pay league, but Rooney’s £160,000-a-week salary is a basic figure and one which would rise in line with bonuses related to success on the pitch.

Hope SAF has something up his wizard's sleeve apart from Nasri. We know we're not getting modric for definite. Sneijder no as per his comments and Nasri's going to stay now.

£30m+ for Carroll and £20m for Downing...£35m+ for Sneijder would be a bargain.

Fergie ruled out bidding for Sneijder last night
"Sneijder?, no no there won't be anything happening with the boy, you seen the squad we have here already, and by the time New York comes around, we will have 29 players here. David Gill will be here tomorrow so at the moment until the tour finishes we won't be doing anything"

According to an 'insider'...

''I don't think Manchester United will go through with any deal for Sneijder, when you examine the finances involved, in particular the player's wages."

That's that then. A defender and winger who weren't really required and The Gay.

Oh well, at least Anderson might come good this season

There you go. We've got confirmation now.

Both from player, from Inter and from Manchester United.

Maybe they are better sources than goal.com (who lied about gill in madrid) and the sun newspaper.

It is strange to see such a polar divide between the official line from both clubs and the media insistence over a consistent basis. Ofcourse, the media is telling us the official line is just to cover their backs, but the more obvious, and probably more accurate interpretation is that, if all parties say there's no move, then duh! There ain't no move!
