More importantly during the peak dull, shit on a stick, can't break them down Van Gaal days his limitations stood out a lot. He doesn't dribble past players, not a great crosser, defers a lot. His best work is off the ball where his movement comes into play. That and quick short passes. He missed a lot of decent chances but the fact he was in those positions are a positive if he improves his shooting. In a functional attack his limitations can be less noticeable. At best I see him as a Park type squad player who is handy across the front-line.

This stands out as the generous end of the accurate appraisals. He's a slightly above average player that gets carried in too many games. Whenever we need someone to make a breakthrough, its not him. He was utter £#%&! in the cup final everyone keeps banging on about, the goal was the only thing he did that was't shite. If we'd had a proper player on the pitch instead of him we'd have won that game in normal time.
If he tows the line, stops being such a colossal @#%&!, tries hard to improve and doesn't mind being a bit part player, fair enough. But as a starting line up player he (as has been said) represents everything that has been going wrong with our increasing mediocrity.
