Van Basten's ankle.

Brazilian Ronaldo's knees.

Arguably the two greatest strikers of all time, both horribly plagued by injury.

Saha's bottle when he stepped up for that penalty kick against Celtic ..

That Larsson loan signing really seemed to mess him up .. great pity.

Jesper Blomqvist's knee.

Good first season, played with a foot injury all season, came back and was looking much stronger and sharper in pre-season, scored a cracking volley in Australia, then injured his knee and was never seen in a United shirt again I was always a big fan, and his signing had as much to do with us winning the treble as Stam or Yorke, the first time we had had a proper alternative or understudy to Giggs.

Van Basten's injury was simply, somehow, so *unjust*

Only in the sense it meant Giggs was rested and there was someone to plug the gap when he was injured.

If you recall, the season before Giggs missed 2-3 months of the season with his hamstring and we ended up potless. He made a big difference and it took until the arrival of Park to really replace him.

Fair enough.

Still seem like a bonkers way of indicating that though....

I stand by it, without Blomqvist we'd have still had that glaring spot in the team where we weren't strong enough.

For instance, he played in the CL Final on the left, Giggs on the right and Beckham in the middle. Without him Jonathan Greening might've had to play

OK, he didn't score the goals Yorke did, or offer the presence of Stam, but he was still every bit as important in my eyes.

Agreed dunk.

He was Ole to Giggs's Cole. If that makes sense.
