Average in an average team in an area where we're well stocked.

We should be signing a belter of a CB in the summer. No need for an meh, expensive back up

Fonte would just be cover for Bailly while he's in Africa, surely?

Bailly has barely played since Chelsea, when was that? October? We can live without him for a month, most of which will be cup games, with 4 other CB options without bringing in Fonte imo.

I don't disagree, I just don't see that he'd improve the squad - I'd rather see a midfielder or winger inbound.

'Man Utd not expected to bid for Fonte'

Manchester United are not expected to bid for Jose Fonte this month, despite the Portuguese defender asking to leave Southampton, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Linked with Manolas in the gossip pages, after the Lindelof 'deal' fell through

If it's true he signed a new deal recently to increase his buyout from £30m to £60m, or whatever, and Benfica are now saying buyout or nowt, £#%&! him and them imo.

we can do without him obviously, but a player like this is invaluable to any squad pushing on so many fronts. one who would be delighted to be part of it without actually expecting to play all the time.

also you should look at the style of centre back mourinho likes, and the way he uses them. maybe most of all look at his tactics. a player of fonte's stature (european championship winner) and of his size could potentially be very useful off the bench. atm if any of the 3 main options is crocked we are likely to see carrick or fellaini used to shore up the defence late on... it's not ideal in mourinho's set up.

Chelsea were linked with him summer before last iirc

Think we were linked with him at some point under LvG

Supposed to be a real talent.
