Thumbs up Eduardo 2 match ban for the dive

if UEFA decide to charge him....which is more than welcome.....

however.....

if they can look back at a dodgy incident and act, why couldnt they have used the same powers and reviewed Dazza's SF incident last season and allowed him to play in the final...or that Barca fullback in the other SF ?

makes me £#%&!in angry

Ridiculous if they do this. If they were consistent, a team like Porto would have a few players banned every game. Another media influenced decision.

Honest mistakes in judgement calls like the Fletcher red card aren't reviewable, since there is highly unlikely to be a camera angle from the ref's pov for a start off.

It's where a player has cheated or conned the officials that they can act isn't it? So if a player dives and the ref ignores it (Rooney at Villarreal) or books him (Evra home to Lisbon) then fine. But if the ref falls for it and gives a pen or FK and a goal is scored (Eduardo) then the player can be £#%&!ed over for it.

read agood point on 365 yesterday where refs should ask the 'diver' if they did dive immediately afterwards. If they admit then no penalty and yellow card. If they lied and it's proven later that they did then match bans. Only downside is the awarding of the penalty...

Indeed. While I think Eduardo should be punished, I'd only support it if it was part of a consistent policy of retrospective punishments applied to everyone - us, vermin, Arse... everybody, every game.

The game desperately needs a Dubious Simulations Panel. If every player who dived with no contact was given a retrospective 3-match ban, you'd almost eradicate it instantly. And £#%&! what the clubs think.

Also, retrospective ban for Lawless.

if a ref "falls for it" ...surely that is an honest mistake too

just seems to me, in football as in life, if you are innocent, its far harder to correct a wrong decision than it is if you are guilty but seemingly get away with it.

the Fletcher one would've looked like a foul from where the referee was, the Eduardo one was given as a foul because as the referee clearly indicated he saw Eduardo's boot touch the goalkeeper. there is a clear difference between the two scenarios. when Rooney dived against bayern in pre-season the referee didn't book him and didn't award a penalty either.
