Wayne Rooney will miss the Manchester derby because he will be in America recovering from injury.

Rooney is presently sidelined by an ankle problem and manager Sir Alex Ferguson does not expect his star striker to be back in action for another three weeks.

But rather than use the state-of-the-art facilities at their Carrington training base, United have opted to use Nike's centre in Oregon, as much in a bid to get Rooney away from the constant headlines, which have dogged him since first news of his unhappiness at Old Trafford was raised nearly three weeks ago.

"What we are intending to do with Wayne is send him to Nike Town in the USA for a week's conditioning training," confirmed United assistant-manager Mike Phelan.

"We have decided, with Wayne, the medical team and the coaching staff that it would be the best thing for him.

"He is going on Saturday and will return the following Saturday.

"It is a week's intensive conditioning, under the supervision of our medical team and our sports' science department."

That's odd. Are they implying he's been overdoing it on the pies in Dubai, or, are they just finding any excuse to get him far away?

Inclined to agree with this. Ever since the contract wrangling he's been as far away as possible. Looks like Ferie never wants to see the bugger again.

he's heavy set and hasn't recovered from an ankle injured sustained last season. He's been in denial about it in fact. Tricky things ankles, far trickier than a leg break.

Yeah, I think a fully fit and in form Rooney would be a hell of an asset to us. was last season.

I'm not that concerned by his absence, I've been convinced since the 2nd Munich game that his ankle is a 3 month job, at some point. Probably needing an operation. United are doing their usual muddle through, operate as a last resort. But the fact they £#%&!ed him off to Dubai for a fortnight, and are now £#%&!ing him off to America for a week, after his being back at Carrington for only a week doesn't bode well.

Having said all that, supposing the contract is above board and he won't be going anywhere, having him return , fully fit, after a good long break for the Christmas period and 2nd half of the season would be a £#%&!ing huge bonus.

No no Mr Jabbers. That was aimed at myself for being such a thick and forgetful tossbag that I forgot Fletcher and Nanners are out of this game. I even posted a link on the same subject but still forgot

I'm so undecided on the subject.

Stuck between "£#%&! the scouse barstard" and "he's an easily persuaded youth who just needs a little help in the head from time to time"
