Talking Steve Bruce - Legend

Only seen his press conference.

He was asked about the title race

'You all know full well where my allegiances lie. '

Then asked on Benitez taking on Ferguson and whether it was wise.

'Not really. I can't see many winners.

I found it amusing like everyone else did.

When you are in this job, especially when you get to the top, the one thing you're going to have to deal with, if you're the manager of Manchester United, or the manager of Liverpool, is obviously handling the pressure.

"If you can't handle the pressure, you've got no chance, you've got to handle it. Managing big clubs like that, the one thing you're going to have to do is get used to that.

"I think there's a lot of mind games come into it, and lots of things will be said, and I'm sure written, over the next few months."

nice to see anotehr manager's viewpoint on this. And one that doesn't give the usual soundbite speil.
By the way, I'll bet Birmingham City are glad they forced him out...

I always feel slightly guilty that Steve Bruce never had his own song.

It would have consoled the lad when he was training alone during international weeks.

It's about time one of the tunesmiths sorted out a ditty for Patrice Evra.

Take your pick: Adams, Butcher, Wright, Walker, Mabbut...Bruce's biggest problem was he played his best football after he was 30 and it was all about young players and building for the future at the time.

Other centre halves who got few caps at the time:Curle, Keown, Watson, Bould, Linigan...

There are a fair few who got capped that were not even fit to tie brucey's laces.

Age thing yeah but mostly it was the pace thing that worked against him with england bosses.
But having said that Of that lot only adams, walker [at his best] and butcher were better, keown played his best after brucey retired, wright bould and mabbut were good players but no way were they better defenders than bruce.
