Thumbs down Champions League qualification open to top seven

Latest from Platini/UEFA. Fearing a breakaway tournament formed by Europe's biggest clubs and that the Europa League isn't generating enough revenue, they want an extended Champions League open to 64 clubs to be in place within the next three years :shakehead:

fair play to platini and the boys, if they set out to absolutely drain the sport of any integrity and money it could generate then they truely are on a path of success.

Personally I don't know if I can bother with much more. the game is being destroyed. this guy talks about standing up to city and then he helps with the psg takeover.

If the Europa League isn't generating enough cash, make the Champions League 1st & 2nd place only in the big leagues, 1st in the smaller leagues
Stop teams dropping from the Champions League into the Europa so it isn't trivialised.

£#%&! it, it's a mess and will never be sorted while arseholes are in charge

Yep. Vermin and Milan are shit, suddenly the champions league has to expand to inveigle them in somehow. What a shock.

a two division super league can run alongside domestic leagues if you use 16 team divisions

domestic cups continue, league cups become voluntary (separate squad lists) and the old european cup format can be reinstated

relegation and promotion to and within the super league would require all sorts of play-offs but wouldn't actually be that complicated - although one abject failure of a season could potentially bankrupt a club almost overnight ;-}

once it is up and running it will only be a matter of time before it becomes inter-continental (Brazil and Japan use neutral grounds like Emirates to play friendlies already - Tokyo hosts the world cup and has done for decades)

Just don't do it.

Just have one super league each season with the top club from each domestic league qualifying. (Perhaps some play offs for lesser league winners).. that is, the league is reconstituted each year.

With a league of say 12 clubs thats 22 matches a season opposed to 14 matches to win the CL, but at least it could keep it interesting for longer for many of the clubs participating.

Why ?

Because it's a league format and not a cup competition ?

partly. any league format entails taking time and focus away from national leagues. football should have local roots imo, not be just some tv-led roster of rootless franchises.
