no chance. Don't see the reasoning behind it.

we have rooney, berbatov to play deep striker role if needed.

we have nani, valencia, park, tosic, giggs and then obertan, ljajic from jan onwards.

above all silva has health and off the field issues which I think will prevent him from leaving spain unless it is liverpool probably.

Neil Ashton was the one who broke today's 'Exclusive'.

He's got a better record than pretty much any journo. Doesn't go in for rumours much, but when he does he's generally pretty accurate:

Great journalism from the Mail, here. Note the headline, the opening sentence and then the rest of the article. Ridiculous.

The last line proves this deal is all but wrapped up tbh.

Didn't Fergie says we approached Bayern about Ribery in March? The Valencia deal was already put in place by then, so Fergie clearly had his eye on another big signing in that area if possible.

Reckon so.

What do you think of Silva? Suited to the PL, what Utd need?

I've always been a big fan and think he'd probably be quite good for us, but with Nani showing signs of improving and Tosic yet to be given a go, I'd probably pass for now. That said, you'd hardly be disappointed if a player of that class arrived.

So That'll be...

Giggs
Nani
Valencia
Tosic
Park
Obertan

and now Silva.

All competing for two wide positions? Yes, sounds totally plausable.

He's good, he may become very good and I like watching him play, but buying him would seem like writing off Nani or Tosic and I'm too much of an optimist for that. Fortunately I'm not the manager.

You can scrap Giggs from that list. Any action he'll see will be in a central position. Obertan and Tosic (especially the former) are reserve players who might see some action in the first team. So that leaves us with Nani, Valencia and Park. Park is very much a 'squad player' and with Nani's form (or lack thereof) it's not shocking to hear that were still looking for a world class winger.

I think Ribery is more likely than Silva. The words coming out of Fergie's mouth remind me of when we were signing Hargreaves.

No chance of Ribery. He doesn't want to play in England and if there is a ny sniff of him being available, he'll be in Madrid.
